SLS Spelling app In development
Our spelling assessment, rebuilt as an app for iPad and iPhone. It is being developed now and is not yet available to download.
This app is still being built. There is no release date yet and it is not on the App Store. If you would like to hear when it is ready, send us a message and we will let you know.
What it will do
- Read each word aloud, in a British voice, in a sentence that makes the meaning clear.
- Draw on the same word lists as our worksheets, so practice on screen and practice on paper reinforce each other.
- Assess against our competency framework, which breaks spelling down into competencies, and show a learner which of them they have secured and which still need practice.
- Work without a connection, keeping a learner's work on the device.
- Back up and restore that work as a file on the device, under the learner's own control — it is their data to keep, move or delete.
Nothing about the learner is collected
The app gathers no personal data at all. There is no account to create and no sign-in. A learner's answers, scores and progress stay on their own device — they are never uploaded, never sent to us and never shared with anyone else. There is no advertising and no tracking of any kind.

Where it has got to
The word lists, audio and assessment logic are in place and the app is in internal testing on iPad and iPhone. Work is continuing on the practice activities and the progress screens before we submit it for review.
